A Comment on Fashion: Fall 2002
I find the big fashion shows in
Paris interesting events. Here are all these women, who look like no
girl next door that I ever lived next to, walking up and down the
runways in clothes that most of the women that I know probably wouldn’t
be caught dead in. But that’s the world of fashion and I guess that
some of the trends do carry to many of the mainstream clothing stores in
the world, though not to the degree of the high fashion boutiques. So,
with that said and done here’s what the fashion gurus are into for the
2002 Fall Fashion Season:
Pants: The main thing here seems to
be choices. Some styles of pants were long and narrow but not
particularly tight. Some of the shows also featured baggy combat style
pants that gather at the ankles. There were even the cropped
“knickerbockers” styles. I would think that these styles might actually
be quite comfortable.
Tops: This year’s theme seemed to
be back in time with styles going all the way to Victorian times with
lace to peasant blouses containing embroidery and vibrant colors. Many
were made up with ethnic prints to give a soft retro feel to the fall
collection.
Sweaters: Sweaters were not the
tight knit style but as Vogue put it there were the “chunky knits” in
this year’s shows. Another style of sweater mentioned by various
writers was sweaters with a shaggy finish. Big changes in the textures
of sweaters making them look a bit more comfy.
Coats: The shows saw a lot of
oversized coats that might have been borrowed from the man in their
life. The double-breasted coat made a return with clean lines, shown by
Calvin Klein. All in all warm comfy coats to keep out the season’s
chill.
So there you have it. My take on
the fashions to look for this fall and winter. In my opinion the main
theme seems to be comfortably stylish. Hope your shopping is a whole
lotta fun this year.
